FINAL PORTFOLIO
For my final portfolio, I took female figures from popular portraiture, both historical and modern, and placed them in conversation with one another. The pieces are intended to examine beauty, agency, and feminine relationships, ultimately forcing the viewer question how women are represented in popular media.

A REFLECTION OF WOMANHOOD
This piece is a collage of various famous portraits, most of which were taken from the body of work of notoriously misogynistic, yet extremely well know, male artists. Picasso's female figure stares back at her reflection, projected four different ways: through the eyes of Botticelli, Gaugin, Klimt, and De Kooning.

BATHTIME
This piece places two works of similar subject matter and time period in a single space: "Woman after Bath" by Goyo and "Woman Combing Her Hair" by Degas. I thought it would be interesting to put the two figures in visual conversation because it has been alleged that the two artists inspired one another. I feel the clothes haphazardly strewn across the floor and placement of the figures in an intimate setting is representative of many of my close female friendships.

FOUR HEARTS
This piece places a series of portraits of women in a single space, done by Picasso, Klimt, Kahlo, and Manet. The women are connected by a series of anatomical veins, demonstrating their affinity, despite their forced competition within the scene. The women are placed within the landscape of the Birth of Venus, intended to raise questions regarding the feminine ideal.

FOUR ARTISTS
This piece shows four female artists that stand as feminist figures in the arts: Maria Abramovic, Frida Kahlo, Yayoi Kusama, and Barbara Kruger. The style in which they are represented in is reminiscent of pop-art and Warhol styles, asserting the women shown as cultural icons.
